Introduction - Women’s Fashion Wear
As diverse as India is, be it the varied food habits of different regions, or the languages spoken,
equally diverse is the clothing preferred by people.
When it comes to fashion wear, women of India wear sarees, lehengas, choli, salwar kameez, and many
more. Indian women are known across the world for their colorful, stylish, and distinctive choice of clothing.
History of Indian Clothing
Indian clothing dates back to the Indus Valley Civilization, some 7000 years ago. There have been
hints of spinning clothes since that era, which left traces of the Indian tradition, customs, and fashion.
Moving forward from that age till now, India has witnessed the production of finely designed and
woven pieces of clothing. For women, these are now amazingly mixed with the influence from the
West, keeping in mind the Indian womens’ preference of wearing modest clothes.
